Although my skills are weak in DNC systems the implementation support from Highland was excellent. A few days after receiving the software and hardware we installed the DNC cables to our CNC work centers and had them all functioning correctly in ShoplinkDNC Server. It really was a simple installation. The quick installation pleased me and the simple intuitive interface of the server has pleased my CNC operators. We are confident we made the right choice.

The Nodes were replaced by Comtrol Devicemasters to which our CNC's are connected. The Shop Terminal and CNC line terminal function is virtually unchanged so the operators have had little trouble adapting to the upgrade. We now can use terminal mode on our Cincinnati 850 controls and remote mode requests on our other controllers allowing the operators to transfer files from their machines. Highland installed the upgrade and trained the operators and supervisors. The upgrade was performed without any loss of production. In addition to the technical success of the transition, we enjoyed a good experience during the process as well. Highland was thorough and spent the necessary time to work through the many controls used by our CNC’s. Highland was especially careful to train our network maintenance person as well as work out final hardware details with him. Overall, I would say it was a pleasant and rewarding experience.

The Node was replaced with a XP PC with a Comtrol 16 port interface. ShoplinkDNC is serving a varity of CNC's, Okuma's, Fanuc's and Cincinatti's. With the exception of the Cincinatti's which are using Terminal mode, the rest are using the prior Shoplink DNC Windows and BTR hardware, so the shopfloor hardly noticed any difference and very little downtime. The ShoplinkDNC uses a GUI interface and configures with just a few mouse clicks. Highland provided very competent installation, training, and an extremely affordable upgrade path.

Our mill department has a ShoplinkDNC Server dnc system which works great so we upgraded our Greco DNC system in our lathe department to ShoplinkDNC Server. All our lathes are connected to 2 ethernet Devicemasters and can use remote file transfers at the machines or using the dnc pc. Highland provided excellent installation and training and had the technical expertise to get one older lathe to transfer files properly which had not worked on the prior system.

We use the option to initiate file transfers from our file server to our CNC machines with a simple Shoplink user interface on several shop floor computers. The wireless ShoplinkDNC has allowed us to eliminate the distribution of NC files on floppy disks, PCMCIA, and USB drives and enables file revision control by restricting our NC file source only to the file server.
